Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's woes deepened with the National Police Service confirming that they will press carges against the governor, effectively adding more legal battles.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the National Police Service stated that during the Governors arrest, Sonko became abusive, unruly and violent in an attempt to resist hence obstructing police officers from the lawful execution of their duties.
The National Police Service (NPS) went further ahead to state that the Governor assaulted and injured the senior police officer leading the team and damaged media equipment.
The institution further divulged that they had received reports about a group of people mobilizing to cause civil unrest.
The statement added that if the said individuals are to do so, then they had to adhere to the law and anyone breaking the law will be dealt with accordingly.
Governor Mike Sonko was arrested on 6th December along the Nairobi Mombasa highway after the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji issued a directive for his arrest.
Sonko has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a multi-million-dollar corruption scandal. He has been accused of irregularly awarding tenders to his close aides, forging documents and misappropriating county funds.
