Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho will receive a global award in the month of June as homage to his efforts in counter-terrorism.
I-Change Nations, a US-based NGO, will fete the governor with the World Civility Award for his initiatives to counter violent extremism at the Coast.
Governor Joho's advisor Tendai Mtana confirmed the plans adding that it is also an accolade to the residents of Mombasa.
Joho sued by tycoon
Governor Joho is also being sued by steel industry tycoon Ashok Doshi over a property row that saw the Mombasa county government destroy a perimeter wall guarding a parcel of land Doshi claims to be rightfully his.
The businessman has accused the governor of abuse of his powers after he allegedly revoked Doshi's title deed for the ownership of a prime two-acre plot in Changamwe.
"The governor should be cited for contempt and serve civil jail term for going against a court order," suit papers read in part.
President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded Governor Joho the national Elder of the Golden Heart award during the 53rd Jamhuri Day celebrations in 2018.
