A man identified as Victor Odede Bwire was on Tuesday charged with conspiracy to bomb the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in January this year.

The suspect had been accused together with another person, Mohammed Yare Abdalla, of planning to carry out a terrorist attack at the building.

The charge sheet at the Mlimani Law Court, stated that Bwire on January 23, had gathered information on the security arrangement of the KICC through his mobile device and relayed the information to Abdalla, who resides outside Kenya, through his facebook account, with the intention of effecting the criminal act.

According to the prosecution team, a forensic investigation of the phones obtained by the police from the suspect, revealed information he had sent in regards to the KICC’s security arrangement to his contacts in Somalia.

Bwire was further charged with the second offence of collecting information to help achieve the attack.

He is set to remain in police custody until the next hearing of the case.

Dusit terror attack

The alleged plot by the man, came a month before the Dusit Complex terror attack that left 21 people dead and several injured.

During the 18-hour siege, police officers had managed to rescue over 700 people and gunned down the five-terrorist linked to the Al-shabaab militia group.

Following the attack on the building located at the 14 Riverside drive, law enforcers had launched a crackdown that saw 12 people arrested at the Daadab Refugee Camp, Garissa County.
