The Kenyan government has reiterated the safety of vaccines intended for a nationwide livestock vaccination campaign set to commence in January 2025.

Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Andrew Karanja, assured farmers of the initiative’s integrity, urging cooperation to ensure its success.

Speaking to the media, CS Karanja emphasised the origin and proven safety of the vaccines to be used, which have been manufactured locally.

He explained the rationale behind the vaccination exercise, which aims to create a unified approach to tackling diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and peste des petits ruminants (PPR).

<blockquote>What has been happening in the past is that livestock in one county are vaccinated, but in the other, they are not, and there is a lot of movement of livestock. So it becomes a waste of resources.</blockquote>

The CS reassured the public that the vaccines are produced by the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI), which has a long-standing reputation for producing vaccines used both locally and in neighbouring countries such as Uganda.

<blockquote>These are safe vaccines which have been tested and tried. It is not something we are trying to get from outside to use on our animals.</blockquote>

<h3>President Ruto defends vaccination drive</h3>

President William Ruto has also strongly defended the programme, stating that it will enhance livestock health and increase the country’s meat export potential.

Speaking during the 4th Pastoralist Leadership Summit in Wajir County, the President criticised detractors of the initiative, arguing that their opposition is baseless.

<blockquote>Those opposing the programme are unreasonable and maybe they don’t have cattle. When we have a conversation about livestock, just shut up if you don’t have cattle.</blockquote>

The vaccination campaign will target 22 million cattle and 50 million goats and sheep.

The President highlighted that locally produced vaccines are critical to the programme’s success, noting that the prevalence of livestock diseases has hindered Kenya’s access to international meat markets.

<blockquote>For the avoidance of doubt, the vaccines we are using are produced by Kenyans. We have a large production of vaccines in Kenya, some of which we supply to other countries.</blockquote>

The President also addressed broader challenges faced by pastoralist communities, such as insecurity and poverty.

Being a force to reckon with in the industry, Grauchi earned a call to be one of the judges at the Smirnoff Battle of the Beats, alongside DJ Redbone and DJ Karoski.

The competition that seeks to give a platform to upcoming entertainers and unearth the next biggest DJ in Kenya is in its third season.

More than 35 DJs turned up at the Nairobi auditions to showcase their skills on the decks for a chance to impress the three judges.

DJ Grauchi has not only attracted a loyal following on social media, but also draws huge crowds and his services have been sought at major events in the country.

DJ Grauchi won the Most Played DJ award&nbsp;at the Ma3 gala awards in 2022. The year also saw him take the crown in The Citizen Digital Awards 2022 Winners published by Citizen TV.

<ul><li>Defence CS Soipan Tuya is mourning the loss of her brother, James Sadala Tuya, an official at the Narok County Assembly.</li><li>Sadala Tuya is survived by his wife and two children.</li><li>He was highly respected within the community and had a positive influence in Narok County.</li></ul>

Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Roselinda Soipan Tuya and her family are in mourning following the passing of her brother, James Sadala Tuya.

Born in 1974, Sadala passed away in October, after a short illness, leaving behind a family, friends, and a community deeply saddened by his loss.

The cortege departed from the Lee Funeral Home on Wednesday, 6 November, headed for his final resting place in Leshuta Village, Narok County.

The service was attended by prominent figures in Kenya's political and government landscape, who gathered to offer their condolences and support to the Tuya family.

<h3>Family member and respected community figure</h3>

The late James Sadala Tuya was the son of the late Hon. Samson Ole Tuya and Pauline Tuya.

He was one of eight siblings, including CS Soipan Tuya. His family describes him as a beloved husband, father, uncle, brother, and friend. Sadala is survived by his wife, Miriam Tuya, and their two children, Lekishon and Namelok.

In addition to his immediate family, Sadala leaves behind many nieces and nephews who fondly remember him.

He was also a cherished son-in-law to the late Hon. Jackson Angaine and Mama Jennifer Angaine, as well as a respected brother-in-law to the Angaine, Pasoi, Nchoe, Nairuko, and Mathenge families. Known for his warm personality, Sadala maintained strong bonds with numerous relatives and friends.

<h3>Government officials and community leaders pay tribute</h3>

The funeral service was attended by several political and government leaders who joined the family in remembering Sadala’s life and legacy.

Among those present were key figures from the Defence Ministry, including the Chief of Defence Forces, alongside Narok Governor Patrick Olentutu, Senator Ledama Olekina, and other local leaders and members of parliament.

Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, in his tribute, highlighted Sadala’s role within the community and his work with the County Assembly of Narok.

Governor Ole Ntutu spoke warmly of Sadala, describing him as a friendly and approachable person who was highly respected among colleagues and locals alike. His positive influence in the county was widely acknowledged by those who knew him.

<h3>Community connections</h3>

Sadala’s extended family includes many prominent families and clans in Kenya, demonstrating his strong roots and widespread connections.

His loss is felt by numerous relatives from the Simel, Kirruti, Sompisha, Maseenke, Pusi, Nkukuu, and Kahura families, as well as by cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
