Barely hours after he was ignored at Madaraka fete by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga has addressed the issue.

Odinga said that he only went to the event after being invited and that it was the President’s responsibility to recognise him.

“I received an invitation to attend the national day celebrations and I honoured it. It was their responsibility to recognize me. I leave it to the people to judge they way they handled the issue. I don’t want to appear to be complaining,” the former Prime Minister was quoted by the Nation.

However, the Opposition leader noted that if he was in the same position, he would have handled the matter differently.

"hio ni shauri yao. The event was not supposed to be a party affair. I would have done it differently. The event should have been used to preach national unity and remember freedom heroes. This should never been used as a campaign platform,” Odinga added.

There was Social media outcry after Odinga was denied a chance to speak during the event which was held at  Kabiruini grounds in Nyeri County.
