Gengetone Group, Ethic Entertainment has broken silence hours after their controversial song Tarimbo was deleted from YouTube.
In a tweet, the group confirmed the action taken by YouTube, as they went on to affirm to their fans that all will be well.
They also promised to have more good music coming out very soon.
“Tarimbo has been taken down from YouTube. To our loyal fans we keep moving expect some fire projects soon,” wrote Ethic.
The move comes days after the song released last week became the topic of discussion, as it was interpreted to advocate for rape and violence among women.
Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua then asked Google to take down the song from YouTube.
He also called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to arrest the music group for advocating for such impunity against women.
Apology
The uproar forced Ethic to apologize to the public, stating that they didn’t mean to disrespect women, or advocate for violence or rape.
“As Ethic Entertainment, we are truly remorseful for any dolor caused by the lyrics to our single, and for every single person that was triggered to a displeasing memory or emotion by it, receive our sincere apologies. Rest assured that no disrespect was intended,” read part of the apology.
Upon receiving the news that the song had been deleted, Dr Mutua took to twitter to say, “Tarimbo is now totally deleted from @YouTube and the channel owner served first warning. After a third violation the channel will be totally deactivated. We thank Google for supporting our efforts to clean the digital space and make it safe for children.”
