Recently, Doctor Mike has tackled misinformation surrounding COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. In a new video, Doctor Mike fact checks claims by President Donald Trump.
"I think it's important to be critical of our leaders so that we can hold them accountable to the statements and the decisions that they make," says Doctor Mike.
He notes that media outlets around the world have criticized the United States's management of COVID-19, which he believes is a bit unfair.
"No one can truly be prepared for a pandemic," says Doctor Mike, who aims to offer a partisan, factual opinion of the president's claims.
That said, the doctor thinks President Trump has issued one seriously problematic message throughout the pandemic: "I think it's a problem that's going to go away."
The video shows President Trump reassuring the country that the problem will disappear in multiple White House briefings.
"COVID-19 is going to go away. It won't be a problem for the rest of our lives," says Doctor Mike. But to continuously say this in the midst of a pandemic when hundreds of thousands of lives are being lost, [and] millions of people are getting infectedit's not an accurate representation of what's going on."
Doctor Mike also addresses two more problematic statements by President Trumpones about the U.S. decreasing COVID-19 testing and mortality rates being the lowest in the worldall while remaining calm, nonpartisan, and factual.
