Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has responded to claims that the newly constructed One-way Luthuli Avenue has left prostitutes in the area without business.

In a post on Instagram, Sonko said that Nairobi is not an immoral county, but a God fearing one and that people who are complaining should take their business elsewhere.

He also made it clear that the road cost Sh10.4 million for the transformation of the Street as one of the measures to ease congestion in Nairobi City.

The county spent less than 10.4 million for the transformation of Luthuli Avenue and not 24 million as reported by some engineers and a section of the media. Also the @unitednations offered the technical and design support. Hao wengine wanao complain hapa kwa hii gazeti, wafanye biashara zao kwa ma lodgings and not openly kwa streets. Nairobi hapana Sodom na Gomorrah, we are a God fearing county,” he said.

Report

The Governor’s words come a few days after a local daily reported that his administration spent Sh24 million to construct the road.

The daily further reported that brothel owners along the street were complaining of drop in business because their customers were scared of getting busted picking sex workers because of the less traffic in the street that is now a one way.
