"Twitter" Chief saves Kenyan lives after fire incident

What is the criteria used to select those awarded State commendations? What achievements should one have in order to receive such an accolade? What do the people awarding look at before making such crucial recommendations?  A section of Kenyans believe Chief Kariuki’s should be awarded not only for saving lives but also for having his people’s interest at heart.

Chief Francis Kariuki is on the limelight once again for saving lives in Umoja area in Nakuru.

The ‘twitter chief’ took to twitter to alert neighbors of a house that was on fire. The neighbors on receiving the message swung into action thus saving the family.

The Chief’s tweet read; “Kwa kihanda nyumbani kuna moto kubwa sana majirani saidieni tafadhali. Pale karibu umoja 2”

Apparently some residents of his community have subscribed to his tweets and hence they receive his tweets as text messages immediately.

Although Kariuki’s tweet was retweeted only six times it saved lives.

A family member of the house that had started to burn took to twitter to appreciate the heaven-sent chief in a tweet that read;

The famous chief has a massive following on Twitter. He has 64000 followers. Looking through his twitter handle, one can see that the dedicated Chief has helped many recover their lost items.
