This should trickle up to the leaders in the country too. We have loans and debts to pay and November should be the month when <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/politics/dci-leaked-letter-exposes-new-target-in-corruption-crackdown-id9195473.html">some of these debts are settled</a>. Kenya is perceived as one of the world’s most corrupt countries. It ranked 143 out of 180 countries on Transparency International’s 2017 corruption perception index.

The looting of public coffers is more commonly reported in recent times and the amounts involved are growing. Corruption compromises people’s futures and their development. It also costs a fortune. Rampant corruption will drain any economy of the resources needed as we move to 2022 people in charge of public money stop this vice.

Leaders, Please Mind Your Language

When you are elected into office, people put you to a certain pedestal. Bad language and insults are nothing new in the political spectrum and Freedom of expression do not give one the right to insult those with whom they disagree, but rather to learn to agree to disagree.

Hurling insults on one another simply show that politicians lack substance and are incapable of tackling real issues of national importance. When Kenyans listen to their elected leaders they don’t want to hear who has a better book of profanities, rather they want to hear how their leaders plan to address the economic and social struggles they face every day.

Leave the Church out of Politics Please

I am not suggesting that Christians ought to stay out of politics. Far from it, but only that politics should stop at the front door of the church. Sad to say, Kenyan churches do not hold leaders to account and they have created this image of ‘being in bed’ with politicians.

The church is seen as the place where people who would be questioned for leading the flock away are being sanctified and allowed <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/local/kenyas-biggest-corruption-scandals-of-2018-id9173830.html">to bring ‘dark money’ to fund projects</a> and buy the grace of God.

The morals taught in our holy books are not translated into holy lives. The question must be asked, what is our religion for? If we can’t answer this, let us leave politics out of the House of God.

<h1>President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term in office had its stumbles, but it also had a number of successes.</h1>

The Head of State has also gone a long way toward meeting a number of his campaign promises, including a pledge to actualize Universal Health Care in the country.

In March this year, the country was surprised when President Uhuru Kenyatta <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/raila-reveals-reasons-for-the-handshake-id8602240.html" id="504b1f12-75a8-5d2a-a607-b3adbbade74f">met with his political rival and leader of the opposition, Raila Odinga. </a>The meeting culminated in what is now famously known as the March 2018 handshake, that saw the end of the political standoff and rhetoric that almost plunged the Country into chaos.

The agenda of the meeting centred on how to unite and heal Kenya following a divisive General Election in 2017. They promised to work together to halt the country’s descent into abyss and expressed their desire to set aside their differences and reconstruct a nation that is responsive to the urgent need for prosperity, fairness and dignity for all Kenyans.

After the handshake, the country entered into a period of national reconciliation and the Building Bridges Initiative team was formed. This group was tasked with collecting information from Kenyans and proposing the way forward for all Kenyans, even those who don’t support either President Kenyatta or Mr Odinga.

President Kenyatta witnessed the signing of two agreements that saw two US companies invest $238 million worth (Sh24 billion) of projects in Kenya and urged the US government to facilitate the operations of US businesses in Africa.

The US Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and Kipeto Wind Energy Company signed documents to close a $232 million deal for construction and operation of a 100-megawatt grid-connected wind power plant south of Nairobi.

Universal Health Care

On provision of Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC), President Kenyatta had said that his government would roll out <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/local/role-of-political-dedication-to-health-id9176350.html" id="8dd092ac-97a0-5272-a173-1b34dc1a2783">innovative health insurance options,</a> set up local pharmaceutical companies, upgrade and manage healthcare facilities and set up specialized treatment centres.

This is a significant and perhaps the most important strategic priority as reports indicated that every year over a million Kenyans gets trapped into poverty due to a catastrophic out of pocket payments of health reasons.

World Bank Ranking

Between 2014 and 2018, Kenya improved its ranking on World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index (DBI) by 56 positions from 136 to 80 and remains on target to get to the top 50 by 2020.

Return of Stolen Cash

Kenya signed a deal with Switzerland <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/bi/politics/kenya-signs-deal-to-return-stolen-wealth-from-switzerland-id8596516.html" id="82fae3cc-d850-5095-adca-f42c7b4bf9c6">to facilitate the return of stolen cash</a>, in a development targeting an estimated Ksh72 billion stashed in Swiss accounts.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Swiss counterpart, Alain Berset, oversaw the signing of the crucial agreement that cleared the way for the recovery of ill-gotten wealth hidden in Switzerland, signalling yet another step in the war against corruption.

Kenya and China also signed a deal, that allows Kenya’s fresh produce including avocado, mangoes and cashew nuts to be exported to the Chinese market.

President Uhuru Kenyatta lead a delegation of horticultural farmers and traders to China for the 1st Shanghai Import Expo during which Sanitary and the Phytosanitary deal were expected to be signed, opening doors for export of the fresh produce.

A number of other trade deals were negotiated and sealed during the visit. The deal also allowed for the export of stevia, a sweetener largely grown in the Rift Valley, into the Chinese market.

Launching the Kenya Coast Guard Service.

It is estimated that Kenya loses about Ksh10 billion in revenue annually due to illegal and criminal activities at sea. The coastal guard was given the responsibility to keep Kenya’s seashores safe from aggression and illegal commercial activities.

Hosting the Sustainable Blue Economy Conference in Nairobi

President Uhuru Kenyatta hosted other Heads of States and Heads of government at the global event in Nairobi. The Sustainable Blue Economy Conference was the first global conference on the sustainable blue economy.

<h1>Interior CS Fred Matiangi and PS Gordon Kihalangwa have been ordered to personally pay Miguna Miguna Kshs7 Million.</h1>

The High Court made the ruling on Friday, <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/politics/miguna-miguna-evans-kideros-arrest-is-meaningless-id8705674.html" id="6e7a1202-75a9-5cf5-97fe-3821f4955adb">citing violation of Miguna's rights.</a>

The two were also directed to pay the embattled lawyer an additional Ksh270,000 for damage to Miguna's property in order to deter such actions by "overzealous" state officers.

On Friday, the court ruled that taxpayers should not shoulder costs of violations by overzealous state officers adding that the action was made to deter future violations.

Justice Chacha Mwita maintained that <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/politics/miguna-miguna-is-citizen-by-birth-high-court-id9199451.html" id="e2f287d5-1dd0-5dc8-8a61-3157f288b23c">Miguna was not an immigrant to Canada </a>and therefore he could not lose Kenyan citizenship when he acquired Canadian citizenship.

The judge also quashed a January 30 gazette notice outlawing Miguna’s National Resistance Movement over which he had declared himself general.

While deporting Miguna in March, the State had argued that the outspoken opposition activist lost his Kenyan citizenship when he acquired a Canadian passport at a time the Kenyan constitution did not provide for dual citizenship.

Miguna was been deported twice despite a court order directing the government to release him from detention at Jomo Kenyatta airport in Nairobi.

Some of the lawyers on Miguna's defence team claimed that he had been sedated and handcuffed before he was deported.

Dr Miguna, was admitted at a hospital in Dubai, where he told journalists that he was harassed, drugged and dragged to a Dubai-bound flight EK 722.

<h1>Education Cabinet Secretary Mohamed has called for a crisis meeting on the curriculum review.</h1>

The announcement comes days after postponing the launch of the new education system.

On Friday, the Education Ministry summoned the steering committee members on the new curriculum to discuss the future of the new education system.

Earlier on reports had indicated that CS Amina had ignored a report prepared for her by technical officers on the country’s preparedness for the rollout of the new curriculum.

Any time a new phrase is coined, it’s used to the point of misuse making its RIP date come a lot faster than anticipated.

Here are some words we need to do away with because in 2019 we can’t keep using the same vocab. Let’s give Generation Z the opportunity to coin some new catchy phrases.

Now, we all love some good slang. It keeps the generation before us on their toes and the not-so-cool kids out of our business.

However,  some of us don't know how to use it or when to let it go. Case in point: ‘Lamba lolo’ it came, it saw now it’s time it goes.

If you didn’t know what ‘kieleweke’ meant, well by now you probably do. <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/" id="5635bdf5-7712-5b96-9795-da98cf12031e">Moreso you have used the word.</a> Can we just let it go since all the crazy campaigns are over and now we have to grapple with debt, increased taxes etc.

It’s safe to say ‘kishaeleweka’ for any Kenyan who is totally compos mentis then you know ‘kishaeleweka’. Ditch that word.

‘Ita madem niko na mzinga’ this phrase has run its course. It used to be catchy nowadays it sounds very perverted and predator-ish if you ask me. Here’s a suggestion though: Instead of using this word which sounds demining to some degree, how about having a civilized phrase to pick up girls with?

It is important to know the current day's street lingo. But, there is one thing worse than not being up to date on new slang: using words that have already been played out.

Bora Uhai needs to be left behind. <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/" id="a19e76ba-f0cd-5c9e-bdd0-6956602d0f50">We have survived 2018</a>, we don’t need to barely survive 2019. Some people don’t use this phrase appropriately hence why Bora Uhai needs to RIP’d in 2018.

Slang does more than just help us discuss culture, though. It is a culture. Youth culture is bolstered by the use of slang words. They act as timestamps separating the new from old and the cool from the uncool. However, some words should be left behind.

A source disclosed to Pulselive.co.ke that Anthony Lemayan Lenkisol <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/gist/gerald-mwangi-commits-suicide-after-posting-on-facebook-id8537829.html" id="a2a2495c-883b-5ea7-a12f-246530d1dab2">committed suicide at </a>Mwamba estate on the outskirts of Narok town on December 9, 2018.

Lemayan is said to have used his Jericho pistol to kill himself.

The officer is suspected to have shot himself on the chin and the bullet exited through the head.

Speaking on the issue, his brother Evans Leteipa Maasai said the family was yet to come to terms with the loss.

Mr Maasai said that investigations on the matter were ongoing and they were yet to establish whether the case will be ruled out as a suicide case.

There has been an increase of officers <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/" id="9966d918-bdc8-5d01-9cbe-e5cbfa0f6d36">committing suicide which prompted</a> the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) to establish the Counseling and Rehabilitation Centre.

“The commission has established the National Police Service Counselling and Rehabilitation Centre to assist the service in addressing psychosocial stress-related problems affecting the officers,” a statement read.

<h1>As we wrap up the year 2018, we can not forget the tragedies that rocked Kenya and the world as a whole. These sad incidents brought us together through the fire, through the pain we somehow survived.</h1>

Solai Patel Dam Tragedy

On the night of 9th May 2018, the lives of Solai residents were completely changed after the <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/local/dpp-wants-solai-dam-case-to-be-moved-to-nairbi-id8875603.html" id="5512c8d3-d464-5686-9f24-f65baba983be">killer Patel dam broke its banks.</a> 48 Kenyans lost their lives that night in what was described as a conspiracy and not an act of nature.

In a 1,800-page document with 27 recommendations, the Senate Ad-hoc Committee called for the owners of the dam and State agents to be held culpable for the deaths, suffering and emotional torture the people of Solai had to endure.

Gikomba Fire Tragedy

The magnitude of the suffering this year also got to traders at the <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/gikomba-market-is-on-fire-id9084254.html" id="411eb07e-0197-55a0-8194-3f3d7e321e47">Gikomba market who lost lives</a> and their property worth millions. At least 15 people are feared dead and more than 60 injured after a night fire.

Some of the victims burned while others choked after inhaling poisonous fumes as they battled to save and salvage their property.

Londiani-Muhoroni Bus Accident

Kenyans had to deal with numerous road crashes that claimed lives and injured many. <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/local/51-die-in-grisly-morning-accident-on-londiani-muhuroni-road-id8959218.html" id="32dc5a14-ba78-5ae8-bca3-db21526efd13">At least 50 people lost their lives </a>in a deadly crash along the Londiani-Muhoroni Highway.

At 4am, October 10th, travellers in the bus, belonging to Western Cross Sacco, crashed in an area locals call Tunnel on the Londiani-Muhuroni road.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres mourned the death of 56 people and condoled with the affected families after the tragic bus crash at Fort Ternan, in Kericho.

Lake Victoria Tragedy

In 2018, Lake Victoria became the blessing that swallowed its own children. Tanzanian owned <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/at-least-30-feared-dead-after-boat-capsizes-in-lake-victoria-id9142501.html" id="c609fd32-8edb-5ab7-9756-5a489e5fd942">MV Nyerere overturned at the lake </a>and killed 200 of the 300 people who were onboard.

According to a story by CNN, Lake Victoria snuffs 5,000 lives a year, leaving various East African families in tatters. This was corroborated by a 2015 Ugandan research finding dubbed “Integrated extreme weather event monitoring, forecasting and warning system.” It also revealed that at least 5,000 people, mostly fishermen perish in the lake yearly.

Kenya donated Sh5.5 million to Tanzania for the victims of the ferry disaster that claimed over 200 lives.

Eight Rhinos Whose Death Was Mysterious

Eight <a href="https://www.theeastafrican.co.ke/scienceandhealth/Tenth-rhino-dead-in-Kenya-after-disastrous-transfer/3073694-4682574-xu8kp0/index.html" id="486eae16-ad90-5fc4-ac70-ab2547bcf4d2">endangered black rhinos died after they were moved </a>to a reserve to Tsavo East Rhino Sanctuary.

The eight were part of a herd of 11 moved due to overcrowding in the Nairobi and Nakuru parks, which was hindering breeding.

What was more bizarre was how the rhinos, under 24-hour surveillance by armed rangers, could all have died at once. Some people accused KWS of a cover-up whenever endangered animals died in the parks.

The situation got murky when Tourism and Wildlife CS Najib Balala was asked to resign and ended up telling his critics to go to hell.

The ghosts of the dead Rhinos came back to bite KWS managers who were sacked and the board dismantled for the blame game that ensued.

School Bus That Killed 11 Students

This was one of the worst tragedies the country had to bear. No parent deserves to bury their child, but on in of August, parents of the 11 pupils had to grapple with this tragedy.

The pupils from St Gabriel’s Boarding Primary School were returning home from a five-day study tour in Mombasa when their <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/local/8-pupils-dead-28-injured-in-mwingi-accident-id8691129.html" id="dbcac069-dd95-5027-9a98-c3a810e7e507">school bus collided with a truck near Mwingi town</a> at around 11pm.

Parents who were waiting for their children barely two kilometres away trooped to the accident scene, where they were met with loud and horrific wails of the children who were at the bottom of a river.

Schools were cautioned against putting the lives of young people at risk through night travel. Learning institutions are prohibited from travelling between 10pm and 5pm.

The DP stated: "Uhasimu na uadui wa kisiasa kati yangu na ndugu yangu mkubwa Raila umekwisha leo. Mimi ndio kijana mkubwa wa Baba yetu Raila Odinga, na hapa mimi niko nyumbani."

He added: "Vile Prime Minister amesema, leo tumefika hapa na tumekubaliana ya kuwa ile uhasama ya zamani tumezika.. tunaanza ukurasa mpya ya kuunganisha Wakenya."

The crowd cheered at the DP when he addressed Raila by his political nickname 'Tinga'.

DP Ruto assured Kenyans that the three would work together as they were on the same journey to unite the country.

Earlier on Raila had posted pictures on his Twitter account after he received the DP at the Kisumu International Airport.

"Sharing light moments with Deputy President @WilliamsRuto as we await the arrival of President @UKenyatta at Kisumu International Airport," the former Prime Minister stated.

This was the first time that Mr Odinga was formally hosting the President and DP Ruto in his backyard since the March 9 handshake which changed the political relationship between the two leaders.

<h1>A Nairobi court has remanded Grace Kanamu Namulo, a suspect in the murder of actor Jamal Gaddafi, pending investigations.</h1>

Kanamu appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate, Charity Oluoch but did not take any plea as the prosecution requested to be granted five more days to complete investigations.

The court granted their prayers and directed that the suspect appears for a mention of the case on December 18. She will be detained at Mlolongo Police Station.

Kanamu had denied killing Jamal and <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/politics/vioja-mahakamani-actor-jamal-nasoor-stabbed-to-death-id9191626.html" id="68dda710-abdb-5170-b2f2-306b1c50cde8">claimed that the slain actor fell on the kitchen knife</a> after an argument they had got heated.

“Mr Gadafi accidentally fell on the kitchen knife when the argument we were having got heated. It’s not true that I killed him," she stated.

According to Kanamu's version of events she had "stumbled upon Mr Gadafi writhing in pain after he fell on a kitchen knife” in the incidence that took place on Tuesday evening.

Those in the know had claimed that the fight started after Mr Gadafi asked the woman why she had been dancing with and accepting drinks bought by men who attended a party she organised at Arks Hotel in Mlolongo, Machakos County.

Sour Relationship

The two, who had been in the relationship for nine months, retreated to a nearby butchery to resolve their differences but rather than reach a solution, the disagreement turned violent.

Reports claimed that Kanamu <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/entertainment/i-m-okay-ktn-host-jamal-gaddafi-refutes-death-claims-id9195273.html" id="fd407e54-c4ae-5e52-9dad-04a1a04064eb">picked a kitchen knife and stabbed the 39-year-old actor</a>, resulting in the heavy bleeding that led to his death.

Police were looking for two men who informed them that Mr Gadafi had been stabbed as reports indicated that they took the body back to the crime scene after the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Shalom Hospital.
