It is very natural to be nervous prior to, and during a job interview. Too much anxiety, however, can lead to failing the interview even if you have the right answers to all the questions.
The best thing to do is ensure that the nervousness does not affect your interview performance. Here are some tips you can use to help you overcome anxiety before and during the interview;
1. Beingprepared
However cliché this may sound, preparedness is one of the best ways to help you overcome anxiety. Preparation involves doing a background research about the company and the job you will be interviewed for. Prior preparation helps you to be confident and relaxed during the interview which gives you more credit.
2. Choose your outfit earlier
Plan on what you will wear for the interview a day before and ensure it is appropriate. Iron it and keep it ready so that you will not waste much time in the morning trying to decide what to wear. Be sure to choose an outfit that not only looks good on you but also one that you are comfortable in. If you are comfortable in your outfit, it will boost your confidence during the interview.
3. Be early
Always ensure that you arrive for the interview before the scheduled time. This will give you some time to relax and gain composure before getting into the interview room. Going early is also a sign that you are really interested in the job and that you are good in time management.
4. Direction
There is nothing as devastating as getting lost on the interview day. First, you may be late and secondly, it will distort your mind completely. Always ask for directions and master them to avoid any mishaps on the interview day.
5. Take your time
Sometimes during the interview, you might feel pressured to answer the questions hurriedly. Take your time to understand the questions asked before responding. If the interviewer was not clear enough, do not hesitate to request clarification.
6. Breathe
Take a few deep breaths before entering the interview room in order to relax. In case the anxiety arises during the interview, do not be afraid to pause and take a sigh.
