700 churches have been shut down in churches and mosques in Rwanda.

The churches and mosques were shut down by Rwandan government over noise pollution

Justus Kangwagye who is a government official while speaking to Rwandan times said the churches failed to meet the required standards.

“Worshiping should be done in an organised way and meet minimum standards. Exercising your freedom of worship should not encroach on other people’s rights.  They have been asked to halt operations until they meet the requirements,” stated Kangwagye.

A BBC report revealed that the churches were closed for non-compliance on the set rules and regulations making vulnerable the huge number of worshippers.

Churches held under tents were neither spared. They were directed to make their infrastructure more efficient so as to meet safety standards.

Kenyans churches have been warned before of noise pollution. Campaigns and investigations to monitor loud music and shouts have been launched in the past.

According to NEMA official, the campaigns were meant to make churches and business owners aware of the risks involved in playing loud music.

Sound level meter has always been used to measure the level of noise.
