Having your drink spiked is probably one of the worst things that can happen to you.

Both men and women fall victims of being spiked. But why do people spike drinks? Well, rape and theft are two big motives. The sad part is that these date rape drugs are easily available even without a prescription. Unfortunately, the culprit can use more than a single dose and this can even lead to a coma or death in some cases. Date rape drugs can be put in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. In alcoholic drinks, they may react in a worse manner. Usually, the drug takes effect in about 30 minutes, depending on which drug has been used and the symptoms can last for several hours.

While symptoms normally vary depending on the substance in question, these are the common symptoms to watch out for if your drink has been spiked.

1. Loosing balance and finding it difficult to move and walk.

2. Blurry vision.

3. Feeling dizzy and light headed.

4. Feeling more drunk than you usually are and after less amounts of alcohol.

5. Lowered inhibitions.

6. Blurred speech and difficulty concentrating.

7. Feeling very disoriented and confused.

8. Feeling very paranoid and like you cannot trust anyone and being fearful of everything.

9. Hallucinating.

10. Nausea and vomiting.

11. Unconsciousness and blacking out.

What next if you suspect that you have been spiked?

Talk to someone you completely trust, it could be a close friend, relative, police etc.

If you’re alone, get to a safe place and call someone to come for you. If your phone has been stolen, borrow someone’s.

If you feel unwell, ask someone to get you to the nearest hospital and tell the doctor that you suspect that your drink has been spiked.

Have a friend or relative stay with you till the drugs have fully left the system.

Take a urine sample and report the matter to the police station.

Try to force yourself to vomit as it may help take out the drugs. Drink a lot of water too.
